Detection is a union: any band over its threshold finds you, so the range that matters is R_det = max_b R_b. Radar range scales as σ^1/4, IR and visual as √J and √C; acoustic is fixed at 4 km. Reduce the loudest band and the limit changes hands — the staircase flattens the moment it does. Two things stop it: the next band, or a floor. Paint buys contrast, but a contrail is not a coating problem, so the visual band bottoms out at 6 km however far you drive its slider.
