Homework 8#

Chapter 9

Due NLT 2 Dec (Lesson 39) by 2359 to Gradescope#

Directions:#

  • Collaboration is authorized as noted in the syllabus Collaboration policy.

  • All homework must be complete, error-free, and neatly organized. Points may be deducted for sloppy and illegible work.

  • Answers should be clearly indicated by a box.

  • Use engineering notation with proper units.

  • Submit work to Gradescope with pages assigned to each problem. Scans/uploads must be legible and neat without excessive margins.

Problems:#

  • Chapter 8: Define each of the following terms and give an example of a random process that meets the definition of each one.

    • Stationary

    • Nonstationary

    • Wide-sense stationary

    • Ergodic wide-sense stationary

  • 9.2-1a and modified b: For Part(b) assume equiprobable transmission of 0 or 1 (NOT what the problem states!). Find the BER as a function of \(T_b\) and \(\mathcal{N}\) (aka \(N_0\)).

  • Error correction: Write out the generator and parity check matrices for a Hamming (7,4) code. Show the codeword for a message of 1101. Assuming there is a bit error in the 5th bit of the received codeword r, find the syndrome and show how the bit error would be corrected.
